Growing up with Malawian and Mozambican parents, my life has always been a blend of rich cultures. This vibrant heritage has shaped my identity and creative spirit. Raising three wonderful children, I instill in them the same appreciation for multiculturalism that has guided my life.
Through my work with the United Nations, I have traveled to over 20 countries, immersing myself in various cultures that deepen my understanding of the world. Every journey has taught me valuable lessons, but it was during my time in Sudan in 2004 that my genuine love for beads and gemstones began to flourish.
The Spark of Passion in Sudan
At the lively Omdurman market of Khartoum, I was introduced to a spectacular world of beads in every shape, size, and color. The rich sights and sounds of this vibrant marketplace sparked a passion within me that has only grown. I found everything from antique trade beads to stunning semi-precious stones.
The market was not just about shopping; it was a sensory challenge that immersed me in the history and cultural importance of the beads. On that day, I realized this was more than just jewellery; it was an art form filled with stories and emotions that connect people. For instance, many beads in the local market were made by artisans who have passed down their techniques for generations, each bead representing a heritage of craft.

The Art of Jewelry Making
My passion for beads soon shifted as I threw myself into jewelry making and design. I pursued formal education in Kenya and Switzerland, where I learned intricate techniques that helped me turn my inspirations into creations.
Over the years, I have gathered gemstones from around the world. Each type of bead tells a unique story; whether it’s Venetian Millefiori, Lapis Lazuli, Amethyst, or Coral, they all hold cultural significance. This extensive collection serves as both a canvas and a motivation for my designs, inspiring me to create jewelry that breaks creative boundaries.
For example, blending materials like Black Onyx and Fresh Water Pearls reflects not just visual beauty but also a narrative of my multicultural background. Each piece I craft is a unique treasure that encapsulates my experiences and honors the legacies of the cultures that shaped me.

Merging Cultures in Design
As my skills as a designer grew, so did my desire to combine diverse cultures into my jewelry. In each piece, I aim to celebrate the beauty of this diversity, creating connections between the materials and the people who wear them.
Every bead I select carries a special meaning that reflects its origin. For example, pairing delicate turquoise with vibrant labradorite symbolizes a fusion of African and European influences. This combination is not only visually appealing but also tells a nuanced story, promoting conversations about the beauty in diversity.
My designs resonate with those who appreciate the artistry and intention behind each piece. Each item I create is filled not just with beads but also with stories from various cultures, allowing wearers to feel connected to a broader narrative.

Guiding the Next Generation
As a mother, my mission is greater than just designing jewelry—it's about teaching my children the value of diversity. I encourage them to embrace cultures and traditions from around the world, just as my upbringing nurtured my own appreciation. I believe that sharing this knowledge empowers the next generation to value their identities while forging connections in our shared global community.
Through hands-on experiences and stories at home, I hope to inspire my children to chase their passions. I remind them that we are all uniquely shaped by the environments we come from, and the beauty of life lies in the stories we tell.
A Journey Through Beads and Cultures
My journey through the captivating realm of beads and gemstones captures a rich narrative of multiculturalism, creativity, and passion. From the bustling marketplace in Sudan to my studio where I craft distinctive jewelry, every bead carries its own significance and story.
